2015 was a year where we made continued progress in many areas. However it was also a year we faced significant headwinds.
I would firstly like to thank the committee for their hard work, during what has been a challenging year for Dalyellup FC.
At the end of 2014, Craig McManus stepped down as President I would like to thank him for his many years of dedicated service to DFC, fear not he has not passed on he continues to play for Div 1 and hopefully next season for our Masters team. Also stepping down was Alan Pastega and family Thank You for many years of coordinating juniors.
The Committee has continued its role to monitor the performance of the club, including its financial performance, and progress is good for the future. There is a lot of discussion about the role of community groups in society today, how relevant they are and how relevant the will be in the future, and let me make some comments here.
The world’s population is growing, and growing rapidly, rising from some 7 billion today to an estimated 9 billion by 2050. But even more importantly, hundreds of people are playing Sport especially the sport we love The Beautiful Game. That means that demand is expected to increase we need to be ready for this increase, we have seen it in past years in our Juniors and other teams. We must make sure Dalyellup FC plays its part in this.
I started to make a short list of people that I had to thank and soon realised that pretty much everyone on the committee needed to be thanked for something they had contributed this year.
The Club has really has had a great year, on many different levels.
Thank you to you all have given their time freely to the club. I will name a couple of people and say a special thank you from me.
Last year I discussed 2015 with Kevin Homden, after that discussion I coined the term The Winning Year so thanks to Kev who is always available for advice and support. Thank you for stepping up as Vice President and deputising for me while I was away.
The next committee will hopefully be able to continue to maintain the high standard that this committee has set and your efforts have made their job a lot easier in taking the club into the future from here.
As a general overview, the club has seen a mini revival in numbers I’m sure that
next year will be even better, as the feedback that I have received has been very
positive from all teams, with most players keen to return next year and several
new members wishing to join in next season. This is a credit to our coaching staff led by Steve Hands.
Coaching is still an area that needs attention, if you are an aspiring coach at any level but Juniors in particular, we will help and support you please be assured of that. We need your enthusiasm and if you need we can and will help hone your coaching skills. These fundamental skills will hopefully carry all young players through a lifetime of Football. We are very keen to continue to build on this in to the coming year and expand the junior membership levels and provide more competitions.
On this note we are very keen to appoint more junior committee members at the AGM in a couple of weeks. Christian has done a great job this year and will need more help next season.
Thanks to our Sponsors AUSSIE LIVING, Bakers Delight also supporters like SOUTH’S of Bunbury and all the committee members whose work in this area is often underestimated and unseen.
Grant Calvert – who has continued to act as Secretary of the club and Registrar, we are hopeful he will continue for another year. This is one of the busiest positions to hold in the club and Grant’s organisational skills and tireless dedication to the task, should not go unrecognised. His skills as debt collector have been unleashed on the community with great effect, he should not have to do it a thankless task at times, Thank You.
Leonie – whose work in the kitchen has been enjoyed by all and whose help
on the committee and around the club is often unseen by members, but greatly
appreciated by us. Leonie will continue her position in the canteen with her band of merry helpers who contributed to the catering and bar work. There were plenty of other members who lent a hand.
Anthony – who is Treasurer, has dealt with everything financially, despite some personal difficulties. The club bank accounts are looking good, so Anthony’s fiscal guidance has obviously paid dividends.
Kyle Daly thank you for finally freeing the club of a longstanding agenda item, the Dugouts. Your committee involvement has been a credit to you this season.
The best thing about DFC, is not the great clubhouse or grounds, not the floodlit
areas or well supplied icy drinks, nor the smorgasbord of yummy food
served with friendly smiles, but the individual members of the club and their social interaction. We really have a great bunch of members and luckily everyone has supported each other to make it the great sporting club that it is today.
Club Person of the Year
This goes to someone who has put a great amount of time into the club and has not only carried out tasks required in their position, has carried out his position and responsibilities with great energy and determination. Christian McEleney, “Kissy”, his input into the club has gone beyond his assigned tasks as he played a major part in arranging the Juniors and particularly in the line marking. His skills on and off the park make one proud to honour him with this award.
This has not been addressed this year it is something we may need to visit next year.
Finally, I’d like to thank all the husbands, wives and partners of Football players for backing them up and giving them the time away from home to play!
So as a gesture of thanks to everyone involved I’ll ask you to raise your glasses wherever you are and say cheers to Dalyellup Football Club Supporters. Come on you RRRRRR’s.
As a final note, and whilst I’ve got your attention – just a quick reminder that the AGM is on Monday 9th November – 7pm At the Dalyellup Sports Pavilion. Please feel free to come along, to either join the committee or just find out about other small jobs you could volunteer for to help out your community based voluntary sports club.
